Course Structure and Delivery Mode
The FME TVET Initiative Courses are delivered through the Open, Distance, and Flexible e-Learning (ODFeL) model, established by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to expand access to technical and vocational education across Nigeria.
Blended Learning Approach (70:30 Model)
Under the ODFeL framework, the course delivery follows a 70:30 ratio:
- 70% Online Learning: Theoretical components are delivered through a robust online platform, allowing students to access lectures, assignments, and interactive materials at their convenience.
- 30% In-Person Practical Sessions: Hands-on practicals and examinations are conducted physically at designated institutions to ensure competency in applied skills.
Learner-Centered Design
The ODFeL system is designed to be learner-centered, accommodating different types of learners, including visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and those who prefer peer group interactions. It allows students, especially those who cannot participate in full-time classroom teaching, to learn based on their specific needs and circumstances.
Accredited Institutions
Currently, 40 institutions across Nigeria have been approved to run ODFeL programs. These include Federal and State Polytechnics, Colleges of Technology, and other accredited institutions.
FAQs About FME TVET Initiative Courses
These are technical and vocational courses developed by the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) and offered through the NBTE ODFeL platform. They aim to equip Nigerians with industry-relevant skills leading to a National Diploma (ND) qualification.
No. You do not need JAMB to apply for any TVET Nigeria program under the ODFeL model. Admission is handled directly through the NBTE TVET application portal.
Not entirely. The courses follow a blended learning model (70:30)—meaning 70% of the content is delivered online, and the remaining 30% involves in-person practicals and assessments at accredited institutions.
You will be awarded a National Diploma (ND), fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and recognized nationwide.
Most courses are structured to run for two years, just like traditional ND programs offered in polytechnics.
Some state-sponsored programs may offer free or subsidized training (e.g. Enugu SME TVET Program), but most programs may involve affordable tuition fees depending on the institution.
It’s not advisable, as each course requires dedicated time and effort. Focus on completing one course to meet practical and online attendance requirements.
There is no strict age limit, but most institutions require applicants to be at least 16 years old and possess a minimum of 5 O’Level credits, including English and Mathematics.
You can find a list of accredited institutions offering ODFeL TVET programs on the official NBTE website: web.nbte.gov.ng
Yes. ND certificates obtained through the TVET ODFeL platform are recognized for further studies, including progression to Higher National Diploma (HND) or university degree programs.
